Barnes Family | At Home | Fort Wayne, Indiana

December 18, 2017

One of my favorite things about my job is how I am able to bless my clients with ever lasting memories in the form of photos. But this family is different. This family blessed me by sharing their story with me, and allowing me to share it with you. Before I start, I have to warn you. This story made me cry, it made my sister cry, and it reminded me why I have the best job in the whole entire world, and how blessed I am by my clients. Enjoy.

Jennifer's dad passed away when she was a teenager. This meant that Sophie has no grandfather. So when Jennifer met Gerry at work in May, and a friendship grew between them, she started to invite him and his wife, Pam, into their family to spend time with Sophie. You see, Sophie really wanted a grandpa, and lucky she immediately saw them as family and took a liking to Gerry. This summer Sophie started  praying and praying  about wanting to ask Gerry and Pam to be part of their family forever, and asking Gerry to be her grandpa. After praying her little heart out, Sophie asked Pam and Gerry and asked them to be her family. Pam and Gerry were absolutely selfless in saying yes to Sophie, as they never had any children of their own, and therefore have no grandchildren. While Pam and Gerry said yes to being Sophie's family and grandparents, there has still been a transition. From the beginning she has been calling Gerry, GerrBear, and Pam, Graham Cracker. I was unaware that Gerry and Pam were not her actually grandparents when I was photographing them and kept calling them grandma and grandpa. But Sophie never had, until after I left. She started saying Grandpa instead of GerrBear... I received a message from Jennifer, Sophie's mom, laying out this story for me and thanking me for coming telling me my timing was perfect because this is a Christmas memory they will never forget thanks to my photos.

I literally cried reading her message. I cried typing it, and I am pretty sure I will continue to tear up every time I read it. Let's be honest, my job is the best. I get to be a part of so many amazing moments, but this for sure is the moment I will treasure forever. On a side note, I really wish all of my sessions were of families in their Christmas pajamas... So enjoy this session and consider doing your family photos in home, in matching Christmas pajamas. Also consider adding a marshmallow might to your family session because it is quite entertaining.
