Suit Choices

March 22, 2019

So you have your dress, and your bridesmaids are covered but what about the guys? Sure there is way less options but how do you know what to pick? There is grey, blue, and black suits, the classics. Or you could chose a totally different suit color? What about alternative looks? What about the guys wearing jeans? Your guys have a ton of options on what to wear, and even though it is less than the amount of dresses you probably looked at for yourself or your girls, it can still be overwhelming. Therefore I have written this blog post as a good starting guide for you as you think about what suit color you want your guys in, I even told you what type of wedding each suit color is perfect for, as well as offered some alternative looks to a traditional grey, black, or blue suit, and what weddings those would be perfect for as well so enjoy!

Grey Suits

Grey suits were the most popular in my 2018 wedding season and it was so easy to see why! Grey literally flatters everyone, and matches literally every color palette to ever exist. I would not be surprised to see grey suits take over and dominate weddings for the next couple years, if not longer. It is very quickly becoming the most popular suit color, and I am such a fan.

Black Suits

Black suits and tuxes have been a long standing tradition. After all when suits and tuxes first made their appearance black was the only color you could get them in, meaning choosing black suits is a classic and traditional look. If you are trying to stay towards tradition, it is right choice for you. Black flatters most color palettes, and generally looks good on all the guys. As my mom always said there is something about a guy in a black suit.

Blue Suits

Blue suits, one of my personal favorites. But then again I always said I would have a navy and blush wedding growing up, so I was a little bias for awhile. According to Google, blue suits has been the more popular suit choice for weddings the past several years. While I think grey is going to come and take that spot, blue suits will always be a good choice. They are classic and traditional without being black. They go with most color palettes, and blue looks good on almost everyone.

Alternative Choices/Colors

So you have decided that the typical black, grey, or blue suit is not what you think would perfectly fit your wedding day, and now you are thinking what will the guys wear? The good news is, I have shot several weddings where the guys were not in traditional black, grey, or blue suits. Rather that be they chose a different color, or went a different direction all together. So here are some alternative choices and where I would recommend them!

Jeans and Vests

Both Mikey and Colten chose this look for them and their guys but with two different takes. Colten, pictured in the tan look, went for a more matching and rustic vibe with their tan vests and cowboy boots. Mikey, pictured above, went for a unique taste by having the guys wear different shades of grey, blue, and brown, with dress shoes. Giving a more cool and effortless feel to the look.

Perfect for:

     Rustic Themed Weddings

     Barn Weddings

     Private Property Weddings

    Outdoor Weddings

    Summer Weddings

    Early Fall Weddings

White and Black Tuxes

Javon and his men wore black and white tuxes for his wedding and I could not of adored this look more. First off, it automatically makes any guy look 10x cooler, and it is so flattering on all skin tones. I thought this look was the perfect blend of unique, yet classic and elegant, and I am hoping to see it in my 2019 wedding line up!

Perfect for:

     Urban Weddings

     Upscale Weddings

     New Years Eve Weddings

Any wedding where your groom definitely wants to make a statement, and look a little extra cool

     Winter Weddings

     Formal Weddings

Two Toned Suits

Alvin and his guys wore one of my favorite looks to date, blue and grey Suits! Seriously obsessed with this look, and wish I would see it more. Grey is such a flattering color on guys, but combo it with the blue and it is dynamite! So effortless, and cool, yet a twist on a more classic look.

Perfect for:

     Urban Weddings

     Upscale Weddings

     Fall Weddings

     Winter Weddings

A Wedding with a Grand Venue

Remember your wedding is exactly what you make it, so don't feel restricted to my list of what color suit is perfect for what! You can literally do anything you want! Can not wait to see what you chose.
