April Travels

April 22, 2019

If you follow me on Instagram, then you know I have been out of town the past two weekends, and will continue to be through the end of July. Seriously my schedule is nuts right now. Gone every weekend, and shoving everything I can during the week so I can be gone all weekend. It may sound crazy, and it is, but I wouldn't change it for the world. Traveling is the best, even if it is just around the midwest. So since we are coming to the end of April, I decided to share my travels over this month!

The first weekend in April I had the pleasure of heading off for a personal weekend getaway in New Buffalo Michigan, which if you haven't been there, you definitely need to add it to your list, it is absolutely gorgeous. I headed there with a good friend, and we seriously had the best time. We spend the weekend exploring little antique stores, eating a lot of yummy food, and staying at the cutest hotel. If you are in New Buffalo, be sure to check out the Harbor Grand, as well as The Salty Dog. They will not disappoint. This weekend was such a refresher and a nice break away as I headed into the insaneness of April, May, June and July. I will spend more weekends on the road, then home by far, and I was thankful that I was able to get away and take a relaxing break before diving into busy season.

The second weekend in April, I was headed off to Cincinnati, Ohio, and let me tell you I fell in love with Cincinnati. So if I end up moving, that is why. I headed to Cincinnati with one of my second shooter's Evan, and thankfully we headed down a day early so we could really explore the city, before heading to Mount Orab to shoot Allyson and Brandon's Engagement Session. I think the greatest thing about Cincinnati was the fact that it was warm. We left gloomy Fort Wayne, at a brisk 38 degrees, and traded it for a sunny Cincinnati, at a warm 68 degrees. We stopped in Dayton on the way down to see a friend, but then off we headed to Cincinnati. We stayed at the Renaissance Downtown Cincinnati, which was absolutely amazing, and I could rave about the staff and the experience all day. We were able to sit outside and eat dinner at Moerlein Lager House. We enjoyed some local beer, while overlooking the Ohio River, and a really gorgeous park. We then explored the park as well as walked the John A Roebling Bridge, and most of downtown. We literally explored until dark, and let me tell you Cincinnati is so beautiful. I am anxiously awaiting to make another journey down there. It was such a relaxing and enjoyable day for us. The weekend was then topped off my heading to Mount Orab the next day and photographing the sweetest couple ever, Brandon and Allyson, at their wedding venue. Honestly both Evan and I returned home Sunday with full bellies and big smiles over the great weekend we had.

The third weekend, this past weekend, I made a trip down to Marietta, Ohio for another engagement session. My trip to Marietta was a little different then most of my out of town work weekends, for one my parents decided to join me this weekend, so I had the pleasure of spending time with them all weekend. We headed down Friday, making a stop in Dublin to eat at The Rail, an amazing burger place there, and do a little shopping. By a little shopping I mean my mom and I made a trip to Homegoods and then followed my dad around a motorcycle super store for three hours before we both were tired of talking about motorcycles. We then made a stop in Zanesville to eat at Muddy Misers, a local restaurant that sits right on the Ohio River, while it was rainy and we could not sit outside, we did get to enjoy the view and have some of the best food I have had at a restaurant. Seriously their pesto pasta was to die for and stopped at a small mom and pop ice cream shop, because our family seriously has a sweet tooth. Although after a shake, and a giant 2 scoop ice cream cone, I think I may take a break from ice cream. We then made our way to Marietta for the night. The next day we got up, and I had the privilege of taking my parents for their first Ihop experience. Once was more then enough for my mom, but I think I could convince my dad to go again. We then explored the gorgeous historic downtown Marietta, until it was time for my engagement session with Chris and Ciara. I had the pleasure of photographing Chris and Ciara at the gorgeous and historic Lafeyette Hotel, and throughout downtown Marietta, before heading home. To me, the best part of the weekend was getting to spend so much quality time with my parents. We are all so busy, so we don't normally get to spend all this time together and it was such a blessing. We laughed more then we have in a long time, most of the jokes coming at my expense as my parents commented on my driving, and enjoyed time away from our phones and the world, just the three of us. Thankful to have created some memories with my parents.

The travels for the month are definitely not over as I am headed to Indianapolis for an engagement session tomorrow, and then Crawfordsville on Sunday for another engagement session. Definitely insanely busy over here! I also managed to squeeze Easter, and my dad's birthday in there as well. The crazy does not stop in April however as 4/5 weekends in May I will be on the road, 4/5 in June as well, and 3/5 in July. So an end of the month travel post is definitely in the works for awhile! Next Month you will be hearing all about Ohio, and Michigan as I will be traveling all over the two, then in June more Ohio and Michigan as well as Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin, followed by more Michigan in July. Busy season is upon us, so hope you are ready to enjoy coming along!
