10 Tips and Tricks for a Flawless Wedding Day

May 10, 2019

As a wedding photographer who has photographed over 50 weddings, I'd like to say I've seen it all. Sure there is a lot I have not seen, but I have definitely seen a wide variety of things, meaning I have a million little tips and tricks that I suggest to my brides. However in order to not make this blog post insanely long, I decided to narrow it down to 10  tips and tricks that I think are the most important and can give you the most guidance on your wedding day!

1. Chose makeup that highlights your best features and do not wear anything you wouldn't normally. Your wedding day is not the day to try black lipstick, or a crazy smokey eye.

2. Assign one person, who knows your family, to gather your family for their family formals. It will make things a lot less stressful for you if you do not have to worry about finding grandma for family formals.

3. Always inform the bridal party, and family, when and where they need to be before the wedding day so they know where to go for photos. Getting people where they need to be can be time consuming and chew up precious photo time.

4. Advise your bridal party, along with family members to avoid getting tan lines that are visible when they are in their wedding attire. Often tan lines can not be fully edited out, and they can be quite distracting in photos. Same goes for the bride!

5. Do not overdo your makeup if you have a blemish! A blemish can easily be edited out, while a thick layer of makeup is harder to edit completely.

6. Transition glasses will become dark in the sun, and there is nothing that can be done about it in editing. If a family member wears transition glasses please request they either wear a non-transitional pair or remove their glasses during photos.

7. You do not want your photos of you walking down the aisle to include a million cellphones and neither do you. Make a sign, or have someone notify your guests to put down their phones and enjoy your big day. You will not regret having an unplugged ceremony.

8. Create cushions in your day. A 10 minute cushion here and there can be super beneficial if you get behind.

9. In order to optimize time, make sure to have all your details ready for your photographer when they arrive.

10. It is important to have even lighting at your ceremony, especially when getting married in a church. If you have to spot lights on the bride and groom it makes it hard to expose the rest of the bridal party as evenly. It is better to have soft, even light across the alter.
